Healthier Sodas

To follow up on my last post about the hidden sugars in our food and drinks, I wanted to share my family’s favourite find of the summer.  I’m not a big pop-drinker, but my partner and step-daughter like pop, which we used to get as a “treat”.

But I was strolling through Ambrosia earlier this summer and came upon SweetLeaf’s Liquid Stevia Sweet Drops – flavoured drops to turn sparkling water into pop with no added sugar or calories!

We have a home carbonator – SodaStream – which turns ordinary filtered water into carbonated water. But you could also use any carbonated water from the store, like Perrier, etc.  Just add a few drops of the flavoured liquid stevia and voila – you’ve got yourself some home-made soda!

There are a lot of different flavours, including root beer, vanilla creme (which makes cream soda), grape, cinnamon, berry, lemon drop, raspberry chocolate and more.  You can also use the drops in other ways – naturally flavour and sweeten plain yoghurt with lemon drop, or combine vanilla creme and valencia orange to make a “creamsicle” flavoured yoghurt.  Add english toffee or cinnamon to both flavour and sweeten your oatmeal.  Do you have any ideas? Feel free to share!
