In case you missed it… Check out the links below for our Naturopathic Medicine Week videos where we discuss some of the key naturopathic principles:
Treat the Cause for Fatigue with Dr. Jacqui, ND
As Naturopathic Doctors, we aim to uncover and treat the root cause of symptoms and health concerns. We view symptoms as messages or clues from the body that something is wrong or out of balance. Naturopathic Medicine involves taking an in-depth approach in order to understand the underlying imbalance and give us answers for how to best resolve the problem. Dr. Jacqui, ND will discuss this important principle and give us an example of a common health complaint (fatigue), where identifying and treating the root cause can make all the difference!
Doctor as Teacher for COVID Re-Opening Anxiety with Dr. Jaty, ND
Did you know that the word “doctor” comes from the latin root “docere” which means “to teach”? Education is a key feature of Naturopathic Medicine and one of Dr. Jaty’s passions. She will be teaching 3 techniques for managing COVID re-opening anxiety that you will be able to implement immediately from the safety of your own home.
Prevention for Diabetes and Insulin Resistance with Dr. Morgan, ND
Prevention is an important guiding principle for Naturopathic Medicine. Dr. Morgan will be talking about how type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance can be managed and prevented by using nutrition as a fundamental health tool. She will also do a tour of her pantry to showcase staples for cooking (and baking!) for optimal blood sugar management.
Healing Power of Nature and Forest Bathing with Dr. Tamarah, ND
The healing power of nature can be a magnetic force in your health and wellness. The Japanese have known for years that spending mindful time in nature is beneficial for the body and soul, but “Forest Bathing” is becoming a trend in Western societies. Dr. Tamarah will touch on what it is, how it works on your nervous system, its health benefits, and how to add it to your daily practice.
Treat The Whole Person with Dr. Julie, ND
It is very important as healthcare practitioners that we have a clear understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathology and how to diagnose and treat disease and physical pain. But, we are so much more than that. NDs also believe that it is very important that as part of individualizing patient care that we look beyond the body and also consider the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of our patients lives. Many studies have supported that addressing the “whole person” leads to higher reported patient satisfaction and better outcomes.
In my own practice, I believe that we need to go beyond this and also look at connection ~ our connection to nature, to our community (however we define that) and own heart’s desire ~ to truly have optimal health and vitality.
One of the biggest things we have learned so far in 2020 is personal resiliency and how important connections are to us. Even though we are “distanced” now, I encourage you to build connections where you can… connect with your body through a bike ride or an online yoga class, call a friend and have a good talk about real things, go for a walk in the woods to connect to nature, reach out to your spiritual community if you have one… whatever brings you closer to you. This is a factor in your wellness in every way.
We will be seeing each other again “live and in-person” again soon… but until then we are still working virtually and are happy to help you explore this principle in your own life! We hope you enjoyed our Live Zoom event for naturopathic medicine week, where we discussed the importance of connection and practiced yoga and meditation together. We will be offering more community-based ways to explore health over the next year, and we look forward to more zoom and virtual events like this one. We would love to have you join us!
