Dr. Jaty Tam, ND

Naturopathic Doctor

aep_2944_1000pxwideDr. Jaty graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, and received her Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Queens University.  Dr. Jaty always had an interest in health, with her earliest volunteering and employment experiences at St. Michael’s hospital. She chose engineering over pre-med because something about the conventional medical system “didn’t quite sit well” with her. However, health continued to be a part of her life throughout her years at Queens, as she became passionate about women’s health through her work as producer on the stage production of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues. After graduating from Queens, Dr. Jaty again found herself involved in health, working as a consultant in a boutique healthcare management and IT consulting company.

While working as a consultant, Dr. Jaty was troubled seeing colleagues and clients treating health as a “luxury” – constantly choosing work over their own health, even so far as failing to seek medical attention for serious symptoms. Through this, Dr. Jaty discovered a desire to help people become to empowered in their own wellness, and to treat good health as a basic right, instead of a luxury.

Dr. Jaty was drawn to Naturopathic Medicine because of its tenets of “treating the cause”, “treating the whole person”, and “doctor as teacher”. As a Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Jaty’s background in engineering has become integral in her practice, as it has honed her problem solving skills, giving her the ability to unravel complex cases to identify and treat the underlying causes of illness. She believes that teaching patients how the body functions and how a disease process can impair this function, is vital to understanding how to get the body to place where it can heal itself. Dr. Jaty therefore sees herself as a guide and teacher to help patients achieve optimal health.

“The body has so many self-healing and self-maintaining functions, and often the best and long-lasting treatments are the ones that encourage the body to correct itself and bring itself back to a state of balance and function.”

Dr. Jaty has a special interest in heart disease, woman’s health, and stress management. She also has a passion for health education, and speaks regularly on various health topics within the community and at companies and other organizations.

Dr. Jaty is licensed in Ontario by the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO), and is a member of the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND) and the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND).
